Goals galore as UA&P High 5 Men’s Futsal League gains ground on match week two
The goals kept on pouring down the UA&P Gymnasium as match week two of the 2023 UA&P High 5 Men’s Futsal League featured some thrilling matchups last October 7 and 8, 2023 to shake things up at the standings.
After getting off the wrong foot in the first weekend of the league, Naga City Tigers and Azzurri SC got themselves a win in their respective records to make the league a bit more interesting. Frontrunners Enderun Colleges produced another massive performance to extend their lead at the top of the standings while Giligan’s – Alumni MNL FC mounted a come-from-behind win for the second straight week and joined Enderun as the only teams with a clean slate in the league.
Naga City Tigers played twice in one day and they did not disappoint after winning both of their matches to propel themselves to second place. In the opening fixture of the weekend, they ran riot past Tuloy FC with a 15-3 scoreline.
A double brace from Alkhair Bertumen and hat-tricks from Jon Rovic Gamatero and Rovie Mar Gamatero helped the Naga-based booters to a massive result against Tuloy who were found helpless against the relentless attacks of the Tigers.
Naga closed out the day with a 7-3 win against Luntian United. Audie Bediones earned the man of the match honors thanks to his brace as they wiped away their opening week defeat against league leaders Enderun Colleges.
Hosts UA&P Dragons opened their 2023 campaign with a 6-3 win over Rizal Technological University thanks to Charles Alexander Hawak’s brace and a man-of-the-match-worthy performance. It wasn’t a walk in the park though for the hosts as RTU gave them a run for their money as they exchanged goals with the Dragons. However, the Dragons pulled away from RTU to ensure that a late comeback wouldn’t be in the cards for their first win of the season.
Azzurri SC took on Tondo FC for the third match of the week to get into the win column and push Tondo to a two-game losing skid. Koen Ashley Buhain scored a hat-trick while Eraño Libre got his brace to get the better of Tondo, but the highlight of the match was Ramon Joaquin Almeda’s goalkeeping heroics which gave him the man of the match award.
Matchday four of the 2023 UA&P High 5 Men’s Futsal League produced a thrilling match-up between GK Sipag and Giligan’s – Alumni MNL FC and a one-sided victory for Enderun Colleges against the Philippine Women’s University.
Last-minute goals from Jay Ar Inventor and Dante Terando Jr. gave Giligan’s – Alumni MNL FC their second win of the season after another late-game performance. It was a match where it seemed whatever GK Sipag threw, Giligan’s – Alumni MNL FC had the answer. Despite Jomar Avila’s hat-trick Giligan’s – Alumni MNL FC squeezed everything out of their squad and pushed themselves to third place in the league.
Enderun Colleges capped off the week with a massive victory over the Philippine Women’s University after scoring 19 goals in a single match. Angelo Louis Escario, Roberto Orlandez, and man of the match awardee MJ Canicosa scored hat-tricks for the hot-streaking Titans to make it two wins out of two matches and an unbelievable +18 difference.
Heading into matchdays five and six of the league, Enderun Colleges are currently in first place followed by Naga City Tigers and Giligan’s – Alumni MNL FC while GK Sipag currently sits in fourth place.
