Daegu FC humbles United City FC after a football masterclass

After an ideal start to their AFC Champions League campaign, United City FC was brought back to reality by Daegu FC after dominating performance from the Korean side which resulted in a five-nil drubbing.

The goals from Cesinha, Edgar, Kim Jin-Hyeok, and Ahn Yong-Woo were too much to handle for Anthony Pinthus and UCFC in their second match in the ACL. It started out fine for the reigning Philippines Football League champions as they held the opposition scoreless in the first 20 minutes.

However, when Daegu FC launched the opening salvo of their vicious attacks, things went south real quick. On the 23rd minute of the match, Cesinha pressured the defense to commit a mistake and he made them pay as he curled the ball past Pinthus.

In their efforts to equalize, UCFC won a free kick which team captain Stephan Schröck took. He curled the ball in for Mike Ott to head in past the keeper but his effort went wide off the right post.

Three minutes before the end of the first half, Daegu FC would then get their second goal of the match through another UCFC error. Keun-Ho Lee intercepted Sean Kane's pass which he then dispatched to the path of Edgar Bruno Da Silva.

Eager to pull one back, Hikaru Minegishi got a chance on the 45th minute but his shot went over the bar.

The Filipino side almost closed the first half to just a two-goal deficit but they were up for a surprise. Jin-Hyeok Kim headed in their third goal of the match right at the end of the first half as he found acres of space in the box.

The first ten minutes of the second half saw UCFC fighting for the ball and trying to pull one back. Mike Ott almost got a goal through Omid Nazari's pass but he was caught offside by the referee.

Team captain Stephan Schröck was booked for a foul and the 2018 K-League winners are at it again to punish UCFC's mistakes. Ahn Yong-Woo took the free-kick and score Daegu FC's fourth goal of the match in majestic fashion as he curled it where Pinthus wouldn't have any chance of reaching.

10 minutes after Yong-Woo scored their fourth goal, he was in the mix of the action again as he scored his brace after Jung Chi-In started the counterattack from the right side. A cross to the path of Lee-Keung Ho who then headed it down for Woo to cap off a beautiful play.

AFC Cup's current all-time top scorer Bienvenido Marañon tried to give the debutants a consolation goal but his effort went over the crossbar. Credit to Curt Dizon's skillful run as he opened up the chance for Bienve to take a shot.

The game is almost done but Daegu FC still looks like they are just starting. Substitute Park Han-Bin scored his side's sixth goal of the match after Cesinha's lofted pass to the path of Jung who then squared it to Han-Bin to finish.

The final nail in the coffin came in on the last play of the match as Jung took it from the spot which left Pinthus dumbfounded. UCFC will be facing the three-time J-League champions Kawasaki Frontale on the second of July for their third AFC Champions League match.
