The wait is almost over: PFL aims to start the 2021 season by August

Philippine club football fans may be in for a treat by August 21, 2021, as the Philippines Football League Brought to us by Qatar Airways aims to start their season with almost the same kick-off month for major European leagues.

In a statement released in its official website, the PFL said that the representatives of the current six clubs participating in the league had a meeting last July 13, 2021, to discuss the recent developments about the league.

This also included the PFL Closed-Circuit protocol which has already been submitted to the Games and Amusements Board (GAB). The biggest discussion was the tentative start date of the 2021 season.

The league calendar is expected to start on Ninoy Aquino Day with its approval already pending with GAB and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) based on its protocols.

The PFF National Training Centre will once again be the main venue for the league matches as it has undergone a few rehabilitations and improvements to prepare for the upcoming season.

Serving as a possible backup venue, the Biñan Football Stadium, which is located 10 kilometres from the PFF National Training Centre is also being touted as a suitable match venue.

As of the moment, there are six confirmed clubs for the 2021 PFL season namely the defending PFL Champs United City Football Club, last year's runners-up Kaya FC-Iloilo, Stallion Laguna FC, Mendiola FC 1991, Maharlika Manila FC, and the Azkals Development Team.

However, the league is also looking to include three more teams for this season as the clubs await their PFF Club License. This will be decided by the PFF Club Licensing's First Instance Body (FIB) soon as they will assess the applicants on whether they are permitted to play in the league.

And finally, with 2021 being its second year of a three-year partnership with Qatar Airways, the PFL officials also met with representatives from the world-renowned airline company to streamline the league's marketing and media thurst for this year.
