The Football gods must have heard the plea of football fans.
With only four days to go before the debut of the Filipinas in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Philippine Football Federation has announced that Cignal TV has secured the broadcast rights of the competition that will kick off in Australia and New Zealand this week.
“This is an exciting development for football fans in the country with the Filipinas’ matches in the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be shown live on free television and other platforms of Cignal TV,” said PFF President Mariano “Nonong” Araneta.
The group stage games of the Filipinas will be aired on One Sports Free TV Channel 41 and Cignal Channel 6. The games will be also made available on Cignal’s newest platform; Pilipinas Live, which sports fans can enjoy watching the games on the go by downloading the app in the Apple Store and in Google Play Store.
Cignal’s announcement came as a total but a welcoming surprise for the fans of the Filipinas who are keen on finding ways to watch the games as it happens in the land down under.
“We are grateful to Cignal for making sure that Filipinos eager to support the PWNFT at the Women’s World Cup now have one less thing to fret about. Cignal surely made a lot of people happy today. Maraming salamat,” Filipinas team manager, Jefferson Cheng said in gratitude.
The Filipinas will first get the taste of the World Cup pitch on July 21 against Switzerland at 1pm, Manila Time. They will be playing the hosts New Zealand next on July 25 at 1:30pm, Manila Time. Their final group stage will be against Norway on July 30 at 3pm, Manila Time.
