Convincing win against Hong Kong punches Filipinas' ticket to WAC 2022 in India

They had their eyes on the prize, they pressed on until the opponents gave in and in the end, they emerged victoriously.

The Philippine Women's National Football Team booked their flight to the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup in India after a tough but convincing win against Hong Kong which needed every ounce of strength and determination for the ladies in white.

The Filipinas got it going as early as 16 minutes into the match after Tahnai Annis scored her second goal in the qualifiers. Rocelle Mendaño found an opening and crossed the ball towards Annis who then slotted it past Hong Kong's Ng Cheuk Wai.

The ladies in white kept on pushing for the ball and on some occasions, forced Hong Kong in committing mistakes inside their own half. The second half saw the Philippines keeping most of the possession and exploiting the opposition's weak spots.

However, in the 60th minute, Hong Kong pulled one back through their team captain Chung Pui Ki. Thanks to a foul, Hong Kong won a free-kick to which Ki dispatched beautifully past Inna Palacios to level the match.

From then on, it was an exchange of wasted chances for both sides until the last three minutes of the match.

Chandler McDaniel, who had an awesome debut in their opening match against Nepal, got her name in the scoresheet on the 87th minute after she took on the entire defense before calmly hitting it past the keeper.

McDaniel's goal served to be the winning goal for the Philippines that sent them to the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup in India with a clean slate of two wins in two matches.

The Filipinas are still locked in on their goal past the Asian Cup, which is to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and with this kind of performance, it is truly a high time for us to dream for the ladies, to shoot for the sky.
